Ice show proves a 1,200 sell-out

MORE THAN 140 Basingstoke Ice Skating Club members played their part in the excellent Dancing Queen ice show at the Basingstoke Arena last Friday.

The evening, based around the music of Abba, was skated in front of a sell-out audience of over 1,200.

The show saw local skaters cut the ice along with a number who will be heading to the Winter Olympics next year in Vancouver.

Most notable was Jenna McCorkell, the six-time reigning British champion, who for the second year running this year finished in the top 10 at the European Championships.

The evening, and the following night’s show in Cardiff, were being used to raise funds for her training – a kind gesture from the Arena Group UK.

At the other end of the spectrum, Taylor Ronald, the current British novice champion, and Dancing on Ice star finalists Hannah and Daniel Lindean also performed.

The event was compared by Dancing on Ice judge Nicky Slater with the biggest cheers reserved for the local skaters – once again a delight to watch thanks to the choreography of Anita Curtis and some excellent costumes.

One of the highlights was the I Have a Dream number. As the words ‘I believe in angels’,rang out, youn-ger member of club skated onto the ice, complete with wings.

The next ice show at the Basingstoke Arena is the highly popular Christmas Show which will be in December. Information on tickets is available via e-mail on Basingstoke @planet-ice.co.uk
