BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s season finished in fine style with the long-awaited End of Season Dinner celebrating their successes, joined by representatives from the evening’s sponsors KJ Smith Solicitors.

Chris Jenkins, stepping down as chairman, handed out the awards, accompanied by KJ Smith’s Davina Hodgkiss.

The awards were as follows: Most Improved Players: Fortune Belcher and Robbie Edwards.

Under-18 Players: Esther McIlveney and Sam Lloyd.

The Miranda Smith volunteer award was given jointly to Chris Jenkins and Claire Brockbank, whilst the Jake Howard goalkeeper award was given to Toby Jackson.

Team Players of the Year were Ladies 1s: Alice Lane and Catriona Bausor, Ladies 2s: Roma Fox, Ladies 3s: Katie Hossicks, Ladies 4s: Ulrike Maier, Ladies 5s: Jane Bailey, Ladies 6s :Katie Wade. Mens’ 1s: Danny Bowden, Mens 2s: Matt Cuss, Mens 3s: Mikhal Saujani, Mens 4s: Kyle McFee, Mens 5s: Jake Wilcox, Mens 6s: Matt Freddie.

The winner of the Basingstoke Hockey Club Fantasy League was also announced as Dan Holding, with most valuable player award handed to Phil Stewart from the league winning men's second team. The league proved so popular, it will be continued next season.

The under-14 boys season had a mixed end to their season, handing out a 10-1 drubbing to Yateley and a 6-2 loss to Camberley and Farnborough.

Player of the Match, Joseph Grice scored six goals in the first match, with Paul Lovelock taking two and there were singles for Adam Cramer and Dominic Ripton Palmer.

With Camberley and Farnborough top of the league, it was always going to be a tough match and despite keeping the game goalless at half time, the final score was 6-2. Grice took both of Basingstoke’s goals.

The under-12 Ladies also played a tough final match against Yateley, losing 5-1 with Ella Baron taking Basingstoke’s single goal.

With the season over, there is still plenty going on if you want to get involved.

There are summer leagues for Ladies, Mens and Mixed teams, as well as Back to Hockey sessions for both Men and Ladies, beginning Wednesday June 20 from 7 to 8pm for six weeks.

The Youth section have training sessions on Saturday’s through May and June, plus watch this space for information on Youth hockey camps.
