LEAGUE Champions Basingstoke Hockey Men’s second team finished the season on a high with a resounding 4-1 win over Southampton seconds.

The game started slow with neither side scoring in the first half.

After the break, it was a different story as Basingstoke got themselves into the game, scoring two goals though Pete Hood and Harry Cave.

Southampton clawed a goal back, but Liam Harrison added more goals.

The thirds lost 3-0 at United Services Portsmouth as injuries took their toll and despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Will Hooper.

Starting with 10 men, Basingstoke fourths still went ahead after 15 minutes, but trailed 2-1 at half-time and lost 4-3, but they still finished second so are promoted.

Aldershot and Farnham hosted the men’s fifths and with a tightly fought match between 3 & 4th place.

Basingstoke took a deserved lead in the second half through Jake Wilcox, however Aldershot equalised.

With more chances coming at both ends, Aldershot got the lucky winning goal from a deflected penalty corner.

A good season from the Club’s development team and great progress made by the younger members of the squad.

Vikings took on Yateley Flames and it did not take long for man of the match Karl Neighbour to start the scoring with a clinical strike.

Getting into his stride, Neighbour scored another shortly after, to go ahead 2-0 within the first 15 minutes.

The Flames fought back as it finished 2-2.

The Ladies' second team saw off third placed New Forest with a 6-2 win to finish their season in fourth place.

They began the game soaking up all New Forest’s pressure, turning it around with a strong period of possession leading to two quick goals from club highest scorer Claire Bowman.

Basingstoke got their third through Jo Bowden before New Forest got one back from a short corner before the half-time whistle.

With excellent interplay, slick passing and great movement off the ball, Basingstoke made more attacks, giving Bowman her hat-trick.

New Forest got another goal back on the break, but within minutes Basingstoke’s Amy Shore tapped home a retaliatory goal, with Bowman scoring a volley from Nicola Burridge into the roof of the net to complete an excellent win.
