BASINGSTOKE Hockey Ladies started positively against Teddington with some great team movement and passing seeing them open up the defence on numerous occasions.

Catriona Bausor connected with Fiona Parker to take the first at close range.

Basingstoke continued to attack, winning a penalty corner which Bausor tipped home again from Claire Bowman.

Their third goal taken neatly by Parker started in defence and was a huge team effort. Teddington did not give up, committing more players and were awarded numerous penalty corners, scoring one with a flick.

Teddington pressed on and were awarded a penalty stroke which they duly converted, bringing them within an inch of Basingstoke.

They team ramped up the pressure looking for an equaliser in the final minutes of the game, however, Basingstoke held strong and took the game 3-2.

They finished their season in third position with a Monday night clash against Maidenhead, and despite ‘more cards than a birthday party’ according to captain Catriona Bausor, saving the best until last, she scored a hat-trick in a convincing 5-1 win.

There with also one a piece from Fi Parker and Rosy O’Dea. Captain Bausor said: "She was proud of the team’s achievements in their first season in South Division One, and was looking forward next year’s chase to National League with such a friendly and supportive club."

Despite having the bulk of possession and a number of short corners against Southampton, the seconds could not find the back of the net and conceded with 10 minutes to go to lose the game 1-0.

The thirds took on the Isle of Wight and in a tight and competitive match, chances were hard to come by. Eventually Isle of Wight broke the deadlock with 10 minutes to go which spurred on Basingstoke and Tania Bridge equalised within two minutes after good work from Annabelle Johnson.

Player of the match Holly Dowds drove the team forward in search of a winner but the game ended 1-1. In an action packed Monday game, they then took on promotion chasing Aldershot and Farnham. Despite the valiant efforts of player of the match goalkeeper Nicky Ball, they lost 2-0.

The first half of the fifths final match of the season against Petersfield required the defence to hold firm with Gemma Allen making some key saves.

Basingstoke found the net with Toyah Jefferies tapping through the keepers legs.

Basingstoke waited until the second half for their second, with a lovely pass from Karen Binney from the half way line to Jefferies to captain Shelley Rounding who was able to slot in behind the keeper to win 2-0.

The sixths lost 5-0 against Fareham, but finished a respectable sixth in their first ever league season and Jasmine Payne was highest league goal scorer.

The under-12 Girls drew 0-0 with Fleet and Ewshot with fantastic team work and great passing from all of the girls.
