BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club's men's team could still finish as champions after a 5-3 home win over Reigate.

It did not take long before good movement by the forwards led to captain Dean Record finding space and finishing neatly on his reverse.

After the break, Basingstoke’s Will Jewkes netted a brace from open play, followed by Record's second of the day. Now 4-1 up Basingstoke relaxed, allowing Reigate a break to convert a penalty corner.

Patient build up play from the back created space for a break and the men in red punished a tiring Reigate with Ben Jubin netting a final well-deserved goal.

The seconds maintained top spot with an excellent 5-2 victory over Bournemouth.

After going a goal down Basingstoke’s Man of the match Andy Goddard responded by taking a reverse stick strike then a dribble around the goalkeeper to go ahead.

Bournemouth equalised from a short corner, however Basingstoke had plenty more to give, with goals from Liam Harrison, Phil Stewart and Dan Holding leaving the final score at 5-2.

The thirds lost 3-1 with JP Vogt getting their only goal.

The fourth team hosted Romsey but shipped three goals within 10 minutes.

Shocked into action, Basingstoke struck back with three goals in return by half-time.

The game could have been either teams but Basingstoke held their nerve keeping the pressure up until finally the deciding goal was given.

Basingstoke's goals were two a piece for Eliot Boyd, Jacques Laurens and Sam Payne and Kyle McFee and Greg Smith taking one each.

Basingstoke are now just one point behind league leaders, promotion is still in sight.

Aldershot and Farnham hosted the fifths and Vikings, the fifths winning 3-0 with goals from Adam Cramer, Tommy Reading and Jake Wilcox and the Vikings losing 4-0.

Basingstoke under-16 boys put in a competitive performance, running out 3-0 winners against Fleet and Eweshot.

A cracking reverse stick swipe by Joe Grice after a run from midfield gave Basingstoke a half time lead.

They attacked with pace and control down the right in the second half, with Stefan Bonsor scoring after a drive into the circle and a shot from a narrow angle found its way in.

A third goal followed after accurate passing saw Roo Davis turn the ball in from close range.
