TOM Jackson was bowled over to win the Junior Volunteer award as he followed on his success after winning the Hampshire Outstanding Services to Cricket Award for 2017.

The 17-year-old from Old Basing ran the All Stars Cricket Scheme at his home club Old Basing Cricket Club, where he managed to get 30 players to start playing the game.

He completed over 200 hours of volunteering both in coaching and as a groundsman.

Tom also attended the Hampshire Cricket Young Leaders course and a Cricket Volunteers course.

He said: “I am really pleaded to have won the award. I am enjoying coaching at Old Basing Cricket Club and I also play for the first and second teams.”

The Senior Volunteer award was won by Sue Pett of the Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletic Club.

She set up a thriving disability athletics group and is also the face of Mid Hants for new athletes aged 11-17, welcoming 95 new athletes to the club over the year.

She has a very different set of challenges from other coaches as her athletes are a transient group, moving from her beginners group to established training groups.”

She said: “I took my daughter to the athletics and was just sat in the car. So I offered to coach and it went from there as I have a background as a PE teacher.

“The disability coaching is for people with mild learning difficulties or physical disabilities we have no one in a wheelchair it is great to see what they can achieve as they put in so much effort into it. I also coach the Year six to nine age group twice a week.”
