CAROL Chandler is one of those unsung heroes which so many sporting clubs have, so it was fitting all her hard work was honoured with the Service to Sport award.

She has been involved with the Basingstoke Junior Ice Hockey Club for 28 years and over this team has supported coaches and enjoyed national and regional success with many teams.

The fruits of her labour have also helped in the success of the senior Bison team, where often you will find all six Herd players on the ice being a former member of the junior development programme at the club.

Her continued dedication and commitment provides the way forward for the next generation of young ice hockey players and coaches.

She gives up much of her time, voluntarily, to ensure the club is run in a professional and proactive manner.

She continues to attend training twice a week and has the thankless job of being club treasurer where she has to chase members each month for their subs.

She said: “We have some high and lows during the 28 years but with us all aiming for the same goal we have made a great club with more work to do.

The the icing on the cake our players are making the Bison great achievement.

“Our next big battle to keep an ice rink in Basingstoke and ice hockey alive.”
