PAUL Maynard from Foxhill, Buckinghamshire won the first prize of £1,000 as the winner of the Open Singles Circuit held at Loddon Vale last weekend.

In total 80 players from around the country were in action at the venue in a total of 71 matches.

In the semi finals Perry Martin (Swale, Kent) beat Paul Reynolds (Herga, Middlesex) two sets to nil and Maynard beat Tom Smith (Nottingham) 1.5-0.5.

In the final, Martin took the first set easily, winning seven shots to two, but then lost the second set heavily to Maynard seven nil. This set up a the sudden death three-end decider which Maynard won 2-0.

Mavis Guest the Club President presented the winner and runner-up with their winning cheques of £1,000 and £500 respectively.

Loddon Vale players who lost in the early rounds were Dougie Morgan, Olive Richardson, Trevor Morgan, Alice Lovett, Ashley Nethercliffe, Alan Tait, Wendy Taylor, Steve Devonish, Mo Saunders, Dave Westbrook, and event organiser Gary Lovett.

In the club Open Singles competitions played this week Duncan Rogers moved to the quarter finals beating Camilla Kingshott 21-8.

In a very close fought match in the Novice Singles quarter finals Tom Regan-Atkins beat Camilla Kingshott 22-16.
