FORMER World Youth Champion Arron Monk confirmed his PDC tour card for the next two years by defeating Lee Evans on day three of Q-School.

The 27-year-old came through a field of over 500 players in Wigan to earn his tour card, allowing him to compete on the UK Tour for the next two years.

Basingstoke's Monk beat former BDO number six Cameron Menzies in the early rounds before edging out Matthew Edgar in the last 16.

He recorded a whitewash victory over Lewis Pride in his penultimate clash prior to defeating Evans 5-2 to secure his tour card.

‘Mad Monk’s’ greatest moment came in 2011 when he was crowned PDC World Youth Champion after he beat current world number one Michael van Gerwen.

He has since gone on to compete in three World Championships and reach the last 16 of the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.

Following the conclusion of his triumph Monk said: “I'm pretty relieved and happy. I've seen the opportunities in the game now and the levels of prize money going up, and I've seen some of the players that I was beating in my youth doing really well.

"I knew I had to take it more seriously and I've concentrated more. It's a fresh start for me now - Arron Monk Mark Two, it's a different Arron with a different attitude.

"I'm more calm and taking the game much more seriously. I've not set any goals yet, but I believe in myself and I'll back myself 100 percent."

Monk’s first test of 2018 will come in the form of a non-televised players championship event in Barnsley on February 17.
