WEYBROOK Park Golf Club’s 20th Anniversary celebrations opened up with the Pro Am keenly contested by 26 teams and professionals from around the county.

This event was made extra special by the generous sponsorship from Gary Tarling, through his companies Unbloc and Drain Services.

Former Ryder Cup player Peter Dawson said: “I had the pleasure of participating in the Weybrook Pro Am which was excellently organised.

“I thought the new six holes were a great compliment to the course. Already in good condition and well designed. If the new holes on the front nine which are being worked on at present are equally well laid out Weybrook Park will become a sought after golfing complex”.

The week that followed comprised of an Inter Club competition, Ladies Day, Members Invitation and a Golf Society Team Challenge and finished with Texas Scamble.

The results were as follows Gary Stubbington from Hockley GC won the Pro Am with a 69, with the first team being Lee-on-Solent led by Jack Coulbert with a score of 127.

The Inter Club Competition Team Better Ball was won by Tylney Park, thanks to Steve Johnson, John Weatherly, Trevor Bave, Marty Hazeldine with 86 points.

The Ladies Day Pairs Better Ball saw Joan Irwin and Jan Dewey take top spot with 43 points.

Jeannie Archer and Jane O’Donall came second on 41 and third were Janet Swift and Sue Gale with 40.

The Members Invitation saw Gareth Thompson and Dan Jeffrey victorious with Russell Scott and Martin Bannister coming second.

The Golf Society Team Challenge saw Crown Golf Society Team A come out on top.

The Anniversary Cup saw three golfers finish on 39 points with Steve Aylett winning ahead of Gareth Thompson and Janet Swift.

The Texas Scramble was won by Norman Ellis, Peter Clarke, Les Waller and Jo Shevlin with a net 53.7.

The success of the week is also down to the members of Weybrook Park for supporting their club.

Weybrook’s Mens Stableford saw Steve Christie (41 points) win Division One ahead of Peter Clarke (40) and Brian Williams (39). In Division Two, Phil Lambourne (43) came out on top ahead of Matt Smith (41) and Brian Elliot (38).
