BASINGSTOKE Hockey Men's first team came back from a goal down to beat visiting Wimborne 4-1.

The home side's John Weir equalised picking up and controlling an aerial from defence, which he squared to Grant Rouse.

They took the lead after Dean Record pounced on a short corner rebound.

Basingstoke’s third came when Dean Record drove the D and fed Mark Smith who lifted the ball past the goalkeeper, with Dave Stones robbing the points for his own at the far post.

The home side added a fourth from Josh Wier's deflection from Andy Preston’s strike to win 4-1.

The seconds travelled to Poole and won 2-0. The first goal came from a Phil Stewart rebound off the goalkeeper and then Liam Harrison was able to make a deflection from Brian Dixon’s drive.

The thirds and fifths lost to Fleet and Eweshot 3-1 and 4-0 with Stefan Bonsor taking the only goal.

The fourths lost 4-1 to Winchester, with Eliot Boyd scoring for Basingstoke. The Vikings lost to Camberley and Farnborough 3-0.

The Ladies first team dominated the first half against visiting Oxford University and even squandering a penalty stroke.

Against the run of play Oxford converted a penalty corner, but Basingstoke hit back as Clare Griffiths fired in an equaliser and then Sharon Stones netted the winner in a 2-1 victory.

The seconds also won away at Havant 2-1. They took the lead after Sarah Shearing pounced on a rebound and doubled their lead before half time Roma Fox played the ball out to Rachel Roberts, who drove the baseline and pulled the ball back for Cath McCormick to convert. The visitors conceded their first goal of the season three minutes from time.

The third team took on league leaders Fareham, and started strongly pushing down the middle and striking first with a converted short corner from Tania Bridge.

Fareham took control scoring five times, including a penalty flick.

Basingstoke found their rhythm in the final 10minutes, Bridge netting her second The fourths won at Andover 1-0, attacking from the off as Karen Binny found the net quickly. They then defended well as Lillie Lawson cleared a shots off the line to keep a clean sheet.

The Ladies fifth team took on Alton and lost 3-2. They found themselves 2-0 down after 20 minutes, but Tricia Flynn and Luci McCullum struck back to level things going into half time. Alton scored the winner after the break.

Basingstoke had much of the possession, but could not convert the short corners, going in at half-time 0-0.

The second half saw Sarah Wakeford and Helen Komrower working the ball up the pitch to Claire Keeley who found Sophie Tamlin at the back post with her deflection wide. Katie Wade made some great saves and following some great play, the away team snuck in two goals in the final three minutes of play.

A great performance from Basingstoke’s newest squad and an unlucky loss.

Basingstoke under-14 boys progressed to the next round in the cup after beating Petersfield 3-2 with goals from Billy Michael and Tomas Bonser.

Esther McElvenny scored twice for the under-16 girls in a 7-2 loss to Fleet and Eweshot.

The under-12 girls beat Alton 2-1, with both Maddie Ripton Palmer and Nell Ruane scoring.
