POWERLIFTER Marina Cornwall has continued her great summer, by returning from the European Championships in the Czech Republic with a fist full of medals.

Cornwall a personal trainer for Fitness First in Basingstoke, won a clean sweep of four gold medals in the Masters Three 47 kg category.

The powerlifter started with 77.5kg squat, followed by a 45kg bench press and finished with a 112.5 kg dead lift for a total of 235kg.

It was a superb performance for Cornwall considering she put her back out before the event putting a plug in at the gym.

Cornwall said: “I can now see how people can so easily put their backs out. I was not able to train before the Europeans, so I had no idea how I would do and I am delighted to have won four golds.”

Before heading to Pilsen in the Czech Republic, Cornwall enjoyed success in the World Powerlifting Championships in Belarus.

The competition was held over two weeks with over 900 lifters from 37 countries across the globe.

Cornwall said: “I won the worlds in 2015, but last year I had car accident when guy hit me up the rear and broke my nose injured my shoulder and I was unable to compete, but this year I have managed to regain my world title which is great.”

The powerlifters busy summer continues in September when she heads to South Africa for the Commonwealth Championships.

Cornwall said: “I won the last Commonwealth’s in Vancouver with a deadlift of 126kg, this was a record at the time. Since then someone has lifted 127.5, so I am hoping to take back the record with 128 and 130.”
