FORMER Totally Tennis ace Esther Adeshina put up a really good fight in her debut in the Girls Singles at Wimbledon last Friday, before losing in three sets to Russian Marta Paigina.

The 15-year-old Brit was given a wild card into the tournament and faced a girl three years her senior and ranked 352 in the world.

Having lost the first set 6-2, the former St Bedes Catholic Primary School pupil hit back leading the second set 4-1, before the Russian drew level.

Undaunted Adeshina broke Paigina, who plays on the senior tour, again to take the set 7-5, before going down in the decider 6-1.

Adeshina started playing tennis at Totally Tennis aged six and was coached by Nigel Long and James Macintosh between 2008 and 2011 and said: "I went in there just wanting to try my best and to come off court happy with performance and I was. It was a tough match but I was happy with it. She was serving well and hitting the ball better than me."

The player who now trains at West Hants Club added: “Last year I played the qualifiers and lost first round so it was a really good experience to play today, and I’m very happy.

“I was nervous but also really excited at the same time. It was a home crowd, I had loads of support and that was really nice.”

In the girl's doubles Adeshina teamed up with Gemma Heath to take on Maria Ramirez from Mexico and American Sofia Sewing and lost 6-4, 7-5.

After Wimbledon Adeshina is playing in the 16U European Junior Championships in Moscow, between July 24 to July 30, as one of two girls representing Great Britain.
