ICE Skating sisters Sadie and Gracee Cook are hoping to make it family double and both qualify for the British Championships for the first time, when they compete later this month in Coventry.

Sadie Cook (12) is the oldest of two sisters and has reached National Ice Skating Association level six.

This involves high technical elements of four doubles and double double combinations The Aldworth School pupil narrowly missed out on qualification for British Championships in her last competition at the Guildford Spectrum, where she came eighth out of 16.

Technically she was placed third and would have been on the podium, but unfortunately one of her spin combinations did not get counted by the judges. She is now working hard to rectify this for Coventry.

Sadie has been skating for five years and like both sisters is coached by Rachael Powell at the Basingstoke Arena.

Following in her sisters footsteps is eight-year-old Gracee, who like her older sister is looking to qualify for the British Championship.

The Kings Furlong School pupil has been skating for two and a half years and just this year moved up to the National Ice Skating Association level four.

This involves spin and jump elements including an axel and a double salchow.

The young skater has recently qualified for the Great Britain regional development squad. This will allow her to compete in national and international competitions.

A very proud mother Kerry Cook said: “I really hope both girls make the British Championships. Both have been working really hard and train six days a week. So it would be a great achievement for both of them.”

If the pair fail to make the qualifying score at Coventry, they will then have a last chance in a competition at Lee Valley next month for a place in the British Championships at Ice Sheffield in November.
