SHE may have missed out on the overall title but North Warnborough ski star Sarah Woodward rounded off her Delancey British Children’s Championships campaign in style with another medal added to her collection.

Having been disqualified from Monday’s under-16 Slalom in Tignes, the 15-year-old was quick to make amends two days later as she took top spot in the Super G standings.

The teenager then followed this up with a second place in the giant slalom with a combined time of 1min 37.05sec to take her place on the podium once more alongside Daisi Daniels and Olivia Foster in first and third respectively.

And while inevitably disappointed not to have taken the top prize, Robert May’s School pupil Woodward insists she can take plenty of positives from her time in the French Alps as she returns home to Hampshire.

“I’m happy with second. I haven’t been well today and was ill near the start gate, so while my first run was technically ok, I felt really weak by the time I got the bottom,” she said.

“I gave it what I could but it just wasn’t full charge. The second run was better, there was one area that wasn’t so good but I think that was the case for a lot of people.

“It has been a good week for me. It is a shame not to take the overall title, the slalom was a disappointment, but it’s been really good.

“It’s a nice way to end the season and end my time in the Under-16s. I’m really looking forward to making the step-up to FIS level next year, although a bit nervous.

“It’s going to be a lot different to children’s races but I’m feeling ready for it.”

It has been a season of great promise for Woodward, with a whole host of solid results tucked firmly in her catsuit.

But she insists there is still plenty of room for improvement as she looks to go from strength-to-strength on the slopes.

“I think the biggest thing for me to work on over the summer is finishing my second run. I’ve had a lot of good first runs this season but then haven’t been so good on the second,” she said.

“At a couple of the international races, I’ve had some really good first runs and it is nice to know I am up there with some of the girls, even if my second runs haven’t gone to plan.

“I can look back on this season with pride, I’m really happy with how it has gone.

“The English Championships in Bormio was a big highlight for me because I won the overall title.”
