POPLEY powerboat racer Daisy Coleman and her brother Sam Coleman were crowned P1 World Champions after a superb weekend of racing in Mumbai, India.

It was a brilliant way for the reigning British champions to start their new season with what was their first trip outside Europe.

Friday saw the reigning British champions set the quickest lap in qualifying against some of the world's finest powerboat racers.

This put them on pole position for the first race on Saturday.

Despite not being able to hold off the reigning US champions to the first turn; we were able to claw back the lead only a few corners later and went on to take the win in a gruelling 15 lap race.

The second race saw them on the outside as the grid was reversed. This saw the pair produce a storming race as they came from tenth at the first turn to once once lead after a few laps and go onto win the race.

The two race victories and overall points lead put us on pole for Sunday's grand finale, 20 laps in 35 degree heat.

A good getaway saw them first into turn one, and from there they managed to build a five second lead within three laps and went onto win the hour long race by 13 seconds confirming them as world champions by the UIM .

A delighted Daisy Coleman said: "Not bad for a couple of sibling rookies considering its less than a year since we started racing together. So where do we go from here well we'll be flying the flag for Pertemps again in our UK title defence and would like to take on the USA P1 Superstock Championship subject to securing sponsorship.

"We're also keen to look at other forms of powerboat racing with aspirations to race in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race so watch this space."
