TEENAGE archery star Jacob Caine shot to the top of the pile to claim the Junior Men's award.

It has been a rapid rise to the top for the 14-year-old Costello student.

He started shooting aged 10 with Old Basing Archers at the village recreation ground.

Caine was delighted to win the award and said: "I did not expect this. I first took up archery after my dad went along to try it out and I asked I could too. I really enjoy if and shoot arrows most days and the Olympics is the ultimate aim."

Caine who lives in Hatch Lane had a super year in 2016 and now holds 32 county records.He won the Archery GB Junior National Championship and also achieved his Adult Master Bowmen level and set a UK record for the Vegas round. In the Adult class of the Archery GB Adult Indoor Championships Jacob was placed ninth out of 175 archers and is ranked 63rd in the UK adult rankings.

He is currently competing with the Great Britain squad in the European Indoor Championships in Vittel, France in the Junior Men’s Compound Team (Under 21).

Karate's Sibi Kumara came second with tennis ace Liam Hignett in third.
