LISA Scarborough was the most shocked winner of the evening with a look of disbelief when she won the Professional Coach award.

The coach of the Basingstoke Hockey Club Ladies first team who masterminded their promotion from South Division 3B and they are league leaders again this term.

A shocked Scarborough said: "I was not expecting this at all. This is really for the players it all their hard work on the pitch and the credit should go to them.

"This is my second year at the club and I can tell you it has a wonderful structure the best of any club I have been involved in."

As well as coaching the ladies first team to success Scarborough is also involved in drawing up weekly session plans for all the other teams at the club and is always on hand to offer advice and support.

The Hockey Club collected a second award when nearly 50 years of dedication to the club by Miranda Smith was rewarded.

The Basingstoke-born winner from Kempshott was instrumental in seeing the club return to Maidenwell Pavilion, but in 2016 along with the council, secured planning permission for a second pitch at Down Grange.

Miranda has transformed a shrinking club to one which is grows year on year by embedding her vision of an open and family orientated club at the core.

Even at 64-year-old she still plays for the national over-60s team and is hoping to play in the European championships in August.

Smith was really pleased to receive her award and said: "This is great for the club and I was chairman for the last eight, but stepped down to focus on getting a second pitch for the club. We only have room for five home games at the moment so if seven teams are at home they have to play elsewhere which is normally Chandlers Ford. This is why it is important for what is a really friendly family orientated club."
