BASINGSTOKE teenage skier Laurie Taylor was delighted to get the chance to take part in his first World Championships at St Moritz.

The 21-year-old managed to score a personal best and was placed third in the qualifying slalom.

Taylor then skied in the main event and came 40th in the giant slalom and 33rd in the slalom ahead of some skiers who are already competing on the World Cup circuit.

Talking after the event, Taylor said: “I was happy with how I skied through the events and I even managed to score a personal best, placing third in the qualifying slalom.”

“It was a great experience and has shown me what to aim for over the next few years.

“This has also been half of my qualification for the Olympic Games next year, which I will be working on completing this season.

Taylor still has a couple of big events to come before the end of the season. which will see him compete in the World Junior Championships and then the British Championships a few weeks later.
