YOUNG table tennis Basingstoke star Anaya Patel continues to climb up the rankings after a fantastic 2016.

The 12-year-old attends Kendrick School in Reading and is a member of the town’s Kingfisher club.

Anaya Patel started playing table tennis at the age of 10 representing St Mary’s Church of England Junior School in Old Basing.

She is now ranked number one in Berkshire at under-13, 15 and 18 as well as being ranked number three in England at under-13 and 16 at under-15.

Anaya Patel helped Berkshire’s under-18s to the 2015/2016 County Championship.

She also plays for Berkshire in the senior category in the Premier Division.

In the National Championship she won a bronze medal after knocking out the number one seed sees and reigning champion.

Last August, she made her England debut and she also played for represented Ellenborough Table Tennis Club in the under-18 British League and Kingfisher Table Tennis Club in the Women’s British League, being the youngest player involved.

Her achievements did not go unnoticed last year as she won Reading’s Female Junior Sports Personality of the Year.
