THE annual Basingstoke Gymnastic Club’s End of Year Show once again did not disappoint.

The show was called The Perfect 10 and to celebrate the 10 years the club has been based at the Active Life Centre.

In total over 260 gymnasts took part from the various squads from the club, each producing great displays.

The squads included development, display group, aerobic gymnastics, freestyle, women’s artistic, Advanced girls and boys, disabilities, teamgym, men’s , tumbling and adults.

They vowed packed crowds over five performances which took place across three days with the opening night on Friday evening, followed by two shows on Saturday and again on Sunday. This saw over 1,300 people enjoy the skills of these great gymnasts.

All who saw them will have gone home in overwhelming wonder and admiration as to what they were able to archive.

Full credit should go to all the coaches and the volunteers and helpers who made such a good show possible.

The show was also great celebration of the where the club, which is a charitable trust has come in the past 10 years, since moving from Kempshott.

At this time they had 700 members which has increased to an incredible 2,300.

Back in 1996 the club had just one paid coach and it now employs 65 full or part time coaches.

During the last decade they have added tumbling, aerobics, disabilities and freerunning to the disciplines they teach at the centre.

2016 was again a very successful years for the club with numerous British and national honours right across the club.

Megan Kealy and Kaitlin Lafferty were part of the European team winners, while Yasmin Hamilton Giles and Jack O’Brien won silver medals at the Louie Cup in Portugal.

Lucy Doyle, the Basingstoke Gymnastic Club’s manager and compere for the evening was thrilled the way the show came together.

Doyle said: “I would like to say a huge thank-you to Zeal productions for the lighting, Steve Hough, and Greg Dennis for volunteering their time to the weekend.

“To the front of house team Abigail Field, Kim Hopper, Anne Bidmead, and Kerry Collisson, and a special thank you to Zanna Woods for her assistance in co-ordinating the show.”

Everyone will now look forward to next year’s show.
