BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club men’s first team got back to winning ways with a 3-2 win away at London Wanderers.
The visitors opened the scoring thanks to a short corner drag flick from Graham Garrett-Lang, before Wanderers levelled by half time.
Wanderers then went 2-1 up early in the second half, but Basingstoke soon replied through Grant Rouse and scored their winner thanks to another short corner conversion from Garrett-Lang.
The ladies first team extended their lead at the top of South Division Two with a 2-1 win at home to Havant.
Basingstoke scored mid-way through the first half when captain Catriona Bausor scored on the angle with a precise strike. By half-time player of the match Claire Griffiths had added a second.
The seconds came from a goal down to win at Southampton II 3-1. Basingstoke levelled things through a clinical short corner. Sarah Shearing injected to Charlotte Barsby to stop, and Cath McCormick executed a precise strike into the bottom right corner.
Just before half time when player of the match Holly Dowds took the initiative on a free hit and took a self-pass, drove into the circle and scored.
They added a third, when Kirsty Brown crossed the ball was converted by Gilly Dunning.
The win took the ladies up to seventh in Hants Div 1.
Elsewhere in the ladies section, despite a strong performance the thirds went down 3-0 to league leaders New Forest.
The fourths got back to winning form as Sue Pett and Jessica Ochtman scored in a 2-0 win away at Chichester.
The fifths beat Haslemere 1-0 thanks to Claire Keeley, and the ladies Development Team lost 1-0 away to Aldershot and Farnham.
In the men’s second team lost 2-0 to Salisbury, but the thirds won 4-1 away at Gosport to move up to second in Hants Division Five.
They came back from 1-0 down as Harry Cave and captain Andy Footman netted braces.
The fourths lost 6-3 to Havant, who quickly went 3-0 up without reply.
Basingstoke opened their account as James Warman scored from a one-on-one.
Havant increased their lead early in the second half, before a textbook tomahawk reverse stick strike from Euan Rixson made it 4-2 and then captain Eliot Boyd scored a late consolation from a rebound.
The men’s fifth team continued their winning form with a 2-1 win against Romsey. Captain Chris Jenkins scored the first and Adam Cramer got the second with a tap in from Justin Ochtman.
The men’s Vikings lost 9-2 away at Alton.
The Basingstoke mixed team lost 3-2 to Newbury in their last warm up game before the England Hockey cup match against Teddington.
Basingstoke went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Ross Cavalier and Dan Holding, but Newbury equalised before half time and then scored a late winner.
