THE Basingstoke Chess Club teams have been in good form in the various leagues over the past few weeks.

In the Southampton League Division Three, Basingstoke A are amongst the early pacesetters following a 3½-1½ win at Chandlers Ford. Wins from Ivan Stipcevic, David Graham and Paul Vanlint plus a draw from Philip Ware secured the points.

The Basingstoke B team also had success with a win over Salisbury B in Division Four.

Colin Knight playing his first match for the club won on top board as did Adam Matthews on bottom board.

Ken Wyld and Frank Bonsey both secured draws to seal a 3-1 win.

The Borders League team showed much improved form with a 4-1 win at last season’s Divisional champions Godalming B.

The Basingstoke points came from wins by Graham, Paul Boyd, Barry Kocan and John Shaddick.

Having had to seek reelection into the top Berkshire League at the end of last season. Basingstoke made it two wins from two with a good win at much fancied Bourne End A. Paul Hackman, Roy Ashmore and Kocan wins and a draw from Stipcevic put the points on the board for a 3½- 2½ win.

Basingstoke Bridge and Chess Club has been massively re-furbished over the past year with a new kitchen, toilets, disabled access and lighting.
