FRESH from the visit of the inspirational Maddie Hinch, Great Britain's Olympic gold medal winning goalkeeeper at the Rio Olympics for their Hockeyfest.

There is no better time to take up hockey and Basingstoke Hockey Club will open its doors again with a open day with something for everyone tomorrow.

Members past and present, those who want to give it a go or find out more, as well as those who want to try out immediately for a team, are all being encouraged to come along.

The youth section take to the pitch first with a fun and friendly session for all in the under-six to under-12 age groups from 9am.

The clubhouse and bar will be open throughout, and the barbecue ready to sell food from 12.30pm, so come along, bring the family and enjoy the day.

Around the specified time slots, there are social games planned on the grassy area, a kids’ activities and play area available in the conservatory, and the table tennis and pool tables will be ready for some action.

Ladies come and register and speak to our coaches at 9.30am, while the men should sign on at 12.30pm.

Outline timings areas follows: 9am to10am Youth (under six to under 12) please come early to register 9.30am to 1300 Ladies season opener (including youth under 14 and under 16, new players come and register at 9.30am and speak to the coaches. On Sunday, the ladies’ first team squad host a pre-season triangular tournament at Down Grange.

Henley and Fareham will provide tough opposition and the opportunity for the squad to try out various tactics and formations in advance of the league season.

Having been promoted as champions last year, the ladies have moved up to South League Division Two. which for them starts with an away trip to Spencer on Saturday September 17.
