ODIHAM hockey star Alex Danson scored the winner as Great Britain came from behind to beat the USA 2-1 and maintain their 100 per cent record at the Olympics.

The victory saw GB win group B and they now face Spain in the quarter-finals of the competition tomorrow night at 10pm BST.

Both teams came into the game with four straight wins , but the Americas knew they only needed a draw to top the group on goal difference.

From the start GB dominated, but at half time the game was still locked at 0-0.

Disaster then struck in the third quarter, as the British girls pushed forward looking for the opening goal.

They were caught on the break and Michelle Vittesse scored with a low shot.

The USA took their lead into the final 15 minutes, but GB never gave-up and all their hard work was rewarded on 53 minutes, as Giselle Ansley and Hannah Macloud combined for Sophie Bray to equalise.

Three minutes later, GB struck again for the winner, as Sam Quek’s low shot into the circle was touched home by Danson.

USA piled on the pressure in the final minutes having a penalty corner saved, but the Brits held on for a well deserved victory.
