Basingstoke Railway Club’s match at Dandys Ford last Saturday was a rods only match, and anyone watching would have thought they had been transported back to the 1960s not a pole in sight, Stacey's Supremo Keith Brown drew another flyer and won with 89lb of carp on the pellet waggler.

The Fred Hicks Memorial Family Fun Match was held at Cheriton Farm last Sunday, where 20 friends and family members participated.

Keith Brown weighed 152lb 12oz of carp, Dave Cooper caught 90lb whilst Harry Spicer weighed 69lb, but this wasn’t a serious match, just a nice way to remember Fred who left us earlier this year.

The late Peter Pentelow of Two Guys introduced me to Fred in the 1970s as the man to sort my house plumbing out and he became a friend even though he was a West Ham supporter.
