THREE teenagers from the Old Basing Karate Club won medals at the Seishinka Shotoken Karate International under-16 tournament at the Honbu dojo in Hemel Hempstead.

Eve Messenger enjoyed a double winning feeling as the 15-year-old black belt won two gold medals.

The first was in the senior kata category and a second in the Sanbon Kumite (for five foot and over).

This added to her growing tally of tournament medals.

The teenager is now preparing for her 2nd Dan grading this coming December.

Two of the club’s novice members who attended a competition for their first time were also in the medals. The Sanbon Kumite (under five foot) event saw Mohan Thondapu gain his first silver just beating Old Basing’s Finlay Pollitt into third place.

Green belt Pollitt won a second bronze medal in the Junior Kata category.

Club instructor Peter Welch, 4th Dan, is looking forward to entering more members into the association’s SSKI National championships at Hemel Hempstead in October. To join the club call 079777 51473 or visit: sski.org
