BRIGHTON Hill's Neil Attridge a yodel delivery driver certainly delivered when he stepped into the ring for his first ever mixed martial arts fight.

It was his final step from wimp to warrior as part of the internet reality television show Wimp 2 Warrior.

Six months of hard training proved to be worthwhile as 36-year-old claimed victory over Damien Shury at York Hall - a venue of so many historical fights.

The Basingstoke fighter got the verdict from the judges over Shury who had fought before.

His worst nightmare had been being knocked out in the opening seconds.

This so nearly happened as his opponent just missed his head with a flying kick leaving a mark on his shoulder.

Talking about the whole experience Attridge said: "I watched a lot of the under card and was very nervous then.

"Once I had my hands wrapped I started to focus and calm down.

"It was great feeling walking out and see your family and friends, Attridge added: "Once in the ring you can’t hear anything from the crowd, but I was able to hear the commentary and they commented on how well I was doing and that really helped me.

"I can’t explain the feeling when I won. It was just a amazing.

"I felt I dominated the fight especially with my floor work."

Attridge has now been bitten by the bug of the sport and with talk of international shows he is really looking forward to carrying with his training. He has not ruled out fighting again.

Wimp 2 Warrior are now looking for a new set of fighters to train for a second series in Britain.

After his wonderful experience, Attridge would recommend it to anyone.
