THE Basingstoke Chess Club’s Presentation evening provided an enjoyable evening for players and guests alike.
The first presentation was made of the Joe French Cup to the winner of the Basingstoke Individual Championship. The cup was presented to Ivan Stipcevic by.George French on behalf of the French family.
The Charles Henshaw Competition Shield was presented by club president John Shaddick to Adrian Smith.
In the final Borders League match of the season Basingstoke A pulled off a good 3-2 win over Reading A.
The Berkshire club players were graded on average 24 points above the Sherborne Road side.
However wins for Roy Ashmore and Paul Boyd supported by draws from Stipcevic and Jamie Chilton provided one of the clubs best results of the season.
In the final Berkshire League Division One match Basingstoke lost 4 ½ to 1 ½ at Crowthorne A. A win from Barry Kocan and a draw from Paul Hackman made up Basingstoke's points.
Basingstoke Chess Club meet every Wednesday evening at the Bridge and Chess Club, Sherborne Road from 7.30 pm.
