THERE was some sad news in the local bowling scene this week, and the thoughts of the Whitchurch League go out to the family of Jim West, a founder member of Marnell, who collapsed and passed away on the green at Littleton last Wednesday.

Basingstoke Town went to the top spot of Division One, following their win against Oakley Buzzards by 44-38.

Howard Park drew 48-48 with Andover B and stay second, just ahead of Kingsclere who beat Hyde Abbey 62-31. Littleton Leopards beat Old Basing Cavaliers 51-39.

In Division Two, Marnell Blues match with Littleton was abandoned, but take four points as agreed between the two captains. Town’s Diamonds are second with their 49-40 win over Whitchurch Yellows. St Mary Bourne Hawks beat Hyde Abbey B 58-43 and Hook Hares recorded their first win 61-53 over Alton Social.

Unbeaten Old Basing Roundheads had a comfortable win against Kingsclere Partridges 70-30 and stay ahead of St Mary Bourne Eagles in Division Three. Howard Park C stay third following their win at Andover C 55-48. Oakley Kingfishers beat Hook Foxes 43-24 and Whitchurch Blues beat Town’s Jokers 57-51.

Thornycroft stay top of Division Four following their crushing win against Oakley Kites 58-13. Oakley Woodpeckers beat Marnell Greens 48-35 and go second.

Howard Park B beat St Mary Bourne Merlins 56-41. Littleton Lions match against Old Basing Royalists was also curtailed due to the tragedy on the green and the points were shared 2.5 each.

Friday’s Basingstoke and District Association match between Howard Park and Alton Social saw the visitors increase their hold on Division One with a 57-48 points win.

Kingsclere go second following their win against Andover 72-40. Oakley beat Town 67-48 and Whitchurch saw off Old Basing 61-48.
