CAMROSE AC fished a joint match with Courage AC at Dandys Ford fishery on Sunday last, top rod on the day was Mick Donohoe, having drawn arguably the best peg on the venue, 92lb 14oz of pole and corn caught carp found their way into his net.

Danny Williams took second spot with 72lb of carp from the margin. Paul Bassinger made third on 69lb 12oz whilst Fred Jones made up the frame with 63lb. Eighteen fished and caught.

Basingstoke Railway Club went to Dandys Ford last Saturday and Colin Ariss topped out with 104lb of carp on pole and pellet, peg 19 Keith Brown included 17lb of perch in his 94lb bag all falling red maggot. Lyn Matthews fished short on pole and corn for her even 70lb. Trevor Matthews came next with 53lb 4oz of carp on pole and pellet. 18 fished and weighed.

Adventure AC went to Greenridge Farm for their latest match, with the venue resembling a war zone and the match split twixt the specimen lake and lake four it was surprising how well it fished.

Martin Wickens won with 224lb 8oz of carp on pole and pellet, Darren Wrights’ 163lb was a pole and maggot affair, with Steve Hunt making up the frame on 128lb on pole and corn. All 16 caught.

Kennet Osprey fished on the middle lake at Gold Valley last Sunday where Mark (Red) Funnel won with 75lb or carp on the bomb and pellet. Tomaz Wojcik took second spot with 37lb of carp caught on paste fished at sixteen metres, “evergreen” Pat Hollies fished the bomb for his 35lb 12oz whilst “top two” Terry Bowles caught 35lb 8oz on pole and meat. Fifteen fished and caught.

I spend a fair bit of the time in our local tackle shop, Bato Baits, and I am surprised by the amount of anglers who buy bait and tackle to fish on the Basingstoke Canal.

It amazes me how blissfully unaware anglers are on the statutory closed season that exists on the canal and in fact on any canal or river from March 14 to June 16 inclusive. Whether you agree with the closed season or not, laws are laws and should be adhered to.
