BASINGSTOKE powerboat racer Daisy Coleman and brother Sam Coleman are joint leaders of P1 Superstock British Championship after the first round held at Scarborough.

It proved an eventful weekend for Pertemps Recruitment Network team and they set to lead the standings as they were in first place on the final lap of the final lap.

However, with chequered flag in sight, the gear box failed in the Coleman Racing boar and they were left to watch their main rivals go past them, before the tide took them over the line.

This left them in fifth place and sharing top spot of the championship.

The first day of racing of the weekend was postponed due to gusty winds and a heavy swell.

On Sunday, conditions were still tough as the fleet took to the water for the first set of races of the season.

The Coleman Racing came home third place, which was not a bad result, as they had problems with boat and also lost communications between navigator Daisy Coleman and driver Sam Coleman.

This left Daisy with a sore throat after shouting instructions for most of the race.

A victory followed in race two and it looked like they would win race three, until their gearbox problem.

Talking after the weekend Daisy Coleman said: “We are really pleased to be joint leaders after the first weekend of the series, considering all that happened to us.”

The next stop on championship is Greenock of June 18 and 19.

The championship then heads south with round three at Gosport (July 9/10), followed by Cardiff and then the finale at Bournemouth (on the first weekend of September).

Before heading to Greenock, Coleman will travel across the pond to take part in a race in the US series at Jacksonville on the first weekend of June.
