OLD Basing Recreation Ground looked magnificent sight as the club played host to the Old Basing Archers’ St George’s Day Shoot.

In total over 70 archers travelled to the village from right across Hampshire, as well as far as Somerset for the all day event.

There was a mix of the traditional longbows, the Olympic recurve, compound bows and barebows.

The shoot was organised to prove the club could run an official shoot and get national recognition which would means the return of the Siege Shoot, which would see the top shooters from right across the country head to the village on Sunday September 11.

The Siege Shoot which was run very successfully for over 25 years, but has not been run in the last decade.

It is exciting times at the club which is set to celebrate its golden jubilee next year.

The St George’s shoot proved a great success and Old Basing Archers completed a clean sweep of the top three places in the Ladies longbow category as Penny Jubin won ahead of Frances Pressner and Karen Winnery. there was also a third place for EvaWong in the ladies barebow.

The home club had further success in the Gents barebow with Aaron Williams the winner, while the Gents compound saw Mark Haldane come out on top and young club mate Jacob Caine was third.

Old Basing’s Ian Borham came out on top in the Gents longbow with Theo Pressner in third spot. Bob Hughes also came third in the Gents barebow.
