FOUR Basingstoke Bluefins Sharks swimmers enjoyed success at the SER Development meet in Southampton.

Ciarán Kelly was the Swimmer of the Meet after he finished first in the 50 metres freestyle and smashed his personal best by 19 seconds.

Joe Rose entered his first 50m breaststroke and knocked an amazing eights seconds off his entry time.

Joe Pavey, who was recovering from a bout of flu, finished strong in his 25m backstroke.

A really strong 100m freestyle from Jamie Joyce saw him knock three seconds off his personal best.

l In other news from the club the Basingstoke Bluefins swimmers were in action at the Portsmouth Level One Open Meet.

The meet is longer than most as it is over three full days and during this time over 50 long course (50 metre Olympic size pool) were achieved.

Charlyne LeBosse produced some excellent performances in the butterfly events She recorded a two second lifetime best in the 100 metre, which secured her fourth in the 14 years and under final.

LeBosse recorded another personal best time in the 50 metre event to earn a bronze medal.

Bluefins swimmers also featured prominently in the breaststroke with Amelia Rugman and Amelia Trist both racing well in the 14 and under final of the 100 metre event.

It was also great to see Mairead Barker back racing after a short break from competitions.

Barker is a breaststroke specialist and showed good form as she made the final for the 15 & over age group.

Millie Rugman qualified for another final, this time in the 50 metre breaststroke and in a very close race narrowly missed gold medal in a cracking time of 36.73 seconds.

Molly Goffin, an experienced National Championship qualifier, swim in the 200 individual medley final and was just shy of her lifetime best, recording a time of 2.34.71 to finish seventh.

Julia Lebosse made the100 freestyle event final and produced a lifetime best of 63.68 and just missed another in the 50m freestyle.

Conor Cherrington collected four gold medals in the 10 and under age group. he won the 50m freestyle by over three seconds.

Fellow age group swimmer Alex Heath also showed a great turn of speed in both the 50 freestyle and backstroke, securing a fourth place in the freestyle, and a well deserved silver medal in the backstroke.

In the 200m breaststroke finals the Bluefins had five swimmers taking part Barker and Goffin swam in the 15 years and over age group finished second and fifth respectively.

In the younger age group, Millie Trist was fourth, and Julia LeBosse sixth. Mitchell Coombes was the other Bluefins representative in a final and narrowly missed his lifetime best.
