THE Solent Thrashers Academy American football team are preparing to embark on their 2016 national league campaign at both youth (ages 14-17) and junior (ages 16-19) levels.

Last year, the youth team made it all the way to the final competition, and finished the season ranked fifth in the UK.

The Thrashers are looking to build on last season’s success, as they compete on two fronts and the season runs from April to July.

The youth team will play in the South West division, and will battle against the Swindon Storm, Cornish Sharks and Sussex Thunder for the division title.

The junior team will be playing last year’s national champions, the London Blitz, as well as the London Warriors, Sussex Thunder, South London Renegades and open their season on April 10 at East Kent Mavericks.

The Thrashers are looking for new players and if you are interested, they want to hear from you. No experience is necessary.

The Thrashers are based in Southampton and draw players from all over the county.

Practices are held on Sunday mornings, and all new players are welcome.

Sessions are run by qualified American football coaches, and all of the necessary kit (helmets, shoulder pads etc) is supplied you’ll only need to bring a gumshield, 3G suitable boots and a drink to practice.
