BOWLS: Loddon Vale played their last Wessex League match two weeks ago against Moonfleet that just illustrated the gulf between the club and some of the more powerful teams in the competition, as apparently the Vale were lucky to come second.

In friendly games, Vale beat outdoor club Tongham 139-62. All the rinks won they skipped by Alan Tait (29-8), Chris Newin (28-12), Alan Smith (21-16), Alan Phillips (29-10) and John Hilton (32-16).

Against an Isle of Wight Club tour team Vale won 154-130. There were just three winning rink Tait (14-12), Frank Fuller (21-12) and Steve Harris (21-15). Losing rinks were Sheila Girle (28-12), Norman Leverton (20-13), Stella Hayden (19-16), Stuart Bone (22-19) and Hilton (26-14).

Last weekend the club played Oakley and won 161-122. Winning rinks were Steve Shaw (24-7), Steve Devonish (22-9), Graham Jordan (25-14), Ian Laming (20-15) and Ray Ogg (25-14). Losing rinks were Newin (20-15), Jim Rasinbow (17-16) and Peter Grant (26-14).
