BASINGSTOKE Chess Club’s teams gain two notable results to start 2016 in great fashion.
Basingstoke B moved to the top of the Southampton League Division Four league after a narrow 2½-1½ win over Chandlers Ford B.
Alan Willis and Adam Matthews both won their games and Frank Bonsey secured a draw, In the Borders League, Basingstoke B won their first match of the season in Division Three with a 4-1 success at mid table Fleet & Farnborough B.
There were wins for Ewart Smith, Barry Kocan and David Graham, while John Shaddick and Paul Boyd both secured draws.
The Basingstoke A side went down 3½-1½ to a strong Farnham B side as Ivan Stipcevic, James Chilton and Shaddick all drew their games.
