OVERTON Black Arrows finished 2015 as they shot a frostbite, which sees shooters fire three dozen arrows from 30 metres to a 80cm diameter target.

This was the first of a series of shoots which will now take place on the first Saturday of each month during the winter at the Archery Range at Laverstoke.

The Gentlemen event was won by Richard Buckner with a score of 336 which included 36 hits and 17 golds, second was Mark Davies with 286 points, 36 hits and four golds, while Mike Bone came third on 283 from 36 hits and included eight golds.

Terry Edwards was fourth on 271 again from 36 with four golds, Steve Allam came fifth with 267 with five golds in his 36 hits. Lee Soper-Dyer completed the top six with 181 from 36 hits and no golds.

The under-16 gentlemen title went to Alex Allam with 166 points from 28 hits and under-14 winner was James Davies with 143 points from 28 hits.

The junior lady title for under-12s went to Jodie Buckner scored 100 points from 20 hits.

Several club member competed recently in the Berkshire Indoor Championships and Open Tournament.

Jodie Buckner won a open gold in the Junior Ladies under 12 years of age class shooting recurve. (Recurve is shooting with sights as they do in the Olympics.) Alexander Allam was placed second in the open gents under 16 class shooting recurve.

Richard Buckner was awarded the Bronze medal in the Open Gentleman’s recurve class.

This was a good result for the club members considering it was the first time except for Buckner, that they had competed in a UK Record Status Tournament, outside club surroundings.

Archery GB the governing body for archery has just released its Field Archery Rankings for 2015.

William (Bill) Jones who shoots Bare bow (that is without sights or other attachments to the bow) is ranked 13th in the UK.

Jones also attended the British Bare bow Indoor Championships. There were over 200 entries in last year’s event, and his score placed him 18th in the UK and seventh in England.

Richard Buckner is ranked 75 in the recurve target archery discipline out of 223 persons.
