BASINGSTOKE Chess Club continued good early season form with a 4-1 victory over Fleet and Farnborough A in the Borders League Division Two, which moved the A team up to second place.

The points came courtesy of wins by Ewart Smith, Jamie Chilton and Barry Kocan plus draws by Ivan Stipcevic and Roy Ashmore.

In the Southampton League Division Two, the club's A team enjoyed a clean sweep 5-0 win against Chandlers Ford A, as John Shaddick, David Graham, Frank Bonsey, Paul Vanlint and Paul Boyd all won.

The Basingstoke B team travelled to league leaders Southampton E and came back with a 3-1 success, after Alan Willis and Peter Beldaus both gained victories, whilst Frank Bonsey and Ken Wyld both drew.
