BASINGSTOKE Hockey Ladies had a great weekend as all five teams enjoyed the winning feeling.

The first team produced a convincing 5-0 win over visiting Horsham.

The home side quickly took the lead as Roxy O'Dea passed three Horsham players before she scored.

Soon after, Annalise Whitehead slipped the ball wide of the goalkeeper for Ruth Crawford to slot home After the break, Kirsty Kent carried the ball into the D and confidently fired into the net to make it 3-0.

Kent then played a powerful ball in the D that was deflected into the air, which Annalise Whitehead controlled and scored. The same pair combined again for goal number five after an impressive save from Gemma Carswell.

The second team also won at home 2-1 against Haslemere.

The game started well and Basingstoke's back line of Nicola Burridge, Charlotte Barsby and Brigitte Wood looked impressive.

Gillian Dunning worked hard in midfield along with Rebecca Donaldson, as they won the ball back when possession was turned over.

The home side took the lead from Burridge and after the break Leah Redding added a second, before Haslemere replied in the final minute.

The third team won 2-1 against United Services Portsmouth, after going a goal down Basingstoke hit back as Niki Dowds levelled and Leanne Smith netted the winner, helped by some great play from Tania Bridge.

The Ladies fourths won 5-2 away to Romsey after an excellent first half saw goals from Sharon Holden and Michelle Rounding, as well as an outstanding hat-trick from Gemma Applegarth. Romsey scored either side of the interval.

The fifth team won 5-1 at home to Aldershot and Farnham, as they led 3-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Hayley Rouse, Janice Spalding and Claire Keeley.

The visitors pulled a goal back, before the home side scored twice more from Alice Hooper and Hayley Rouse assisted by Fiona Oxlade.

In the men’s section, the first team opened their cup campaign with a 6-3 win against Ashford on Sunday, having won 4-0 away at Havant on the previous day.

The men’s second team won 4-1 against Swanage and Wareham, with goals from Greg Smith, Ben Shaughnessy and two from Josh Weir.

The men’s fourth team won 1-0 against Eastleigh as Alex Stewart scored.
