BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies first team lost a hard fought contest with visiting East Grinstead 1-0.

The Sussex side opened the scoring, but the home side looked dangerous through Kirsty Kent, Mel Trevaskis and Jo Bowden, while Fi Parker and Catriona Bausor came close to scoring.

Basingstoke’s goalkeeper Gemma Carswell and her opposite number both had excellent games.

The Basingstoke player of the match was shared between Roxy O’Dea, Steph Hazell and Carswell.

In the men’s section, the first team won 8-1 against visiting Chichester.

Dean Record scored the opener after inter play with Dave Montgomery.

Then from a short corner saw Jed Mills net after the first strike had been charged down.

In the second half, Basingstoke really dominated as Record finished off a pass from Grant Rouse and then Rouse finished off a selfless Mills pass.

Dave Stones popped up with a goal number five, before Record completed his hat-trick with another low finish.

It was left to Rouse and Mills to finish off off the Basingstoke scoring.

Matt Woodhouse a try scorer against Winchester in action The second team won 7-0 away at Fareham V, as Ben Shaughnessy and Will Jewkes both netted hattricks and there was a single goal for Josh Weir .

The fifth team also won away 4-2 at Fleet and Ewshott, thanks to goals from Chris Jenkins, man of the match Geoff Neale (2) and Nick Horsey.
