BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s men’s first team maintained their unbeaten record with a 5-2 victory away at Southampton.

The visitors were awarded an early penalty stroke, but David Stones’ flick hit the post.

He quickly made amends, scoring from a tight angle, and the lead was doubled by Grant Rouse’s penalty flick.

Dean Record made it 3-0 from a short corner, before Southampton scored either side of the break.

Basingstoke added a fourth goal as Dan Bowden and Rouse combined for David Montgomery to score, before Jed Mills completed a 5-2 win.

The second team won 5-0 against visiting Havant, as Ben Shaughnessy netted a hat-trick and there were single strikes for Will Jewkes and Josh Weir.

The fifth team lost 2-0 away to City of Portsmouth, despite strong work in midfield by Matthew Kingston and fine goalkeeping from Harry Spicer.

The ladies first team continued their winning streak, triumphing 6-2 away at Guildford.

Fi Parker netted the first, before Guildford equalised, but Catriona Bausor scored twice to make it 3-1.

After the break, Scarborough netted from a short corner and then Parker got her second. Guildford pulled another goal back, but Parker completed her hat-trick to make it 6-2.

The third team won 5-1 against Aldershot and Farnham. Leanne Smith, Kirsty Brown, Amy Bennett, Ellie Pearson and Catherine Woodcliffe all scored.
