WHITCHURCH shooting star Connor Gorsuch was right on target as he won a bronze medal in the Olympic discipline double trap at the shotgun world championship in Lonato, Italy.

Gorscuch, who is coached by Commonwealth gold medallist and current world number three Steve Scott, shot well in difficult conditions throughout the competition.

He finished qualification in fourth place, scoring 133 out of 150.

In a competitive final, with top six qualifiers competing for the medals, the teenager finished third overall to claim the bronze medal, which was a superb result.

British Shooting Performance staff were impressed by the focus and competitive mettle displayed by Gorsuch.

He battled through the six-man final followed by a three-way shoot off for the gold and silver medal match, before finally clinching the bronze medal in a head-to-head shoot-off.

It wa ans incredibly hard-fought match over 30 targets, which required extreme composure.

A refereeing error resulted in the loss of a target in a match that was ultimately decided by a single target.

Talking after the event, Gorsuch said “Clay target shooting really is a major national sport in Italy and I thoroughly enjoyed my time competing at such a fantastic facility.

“It was another great experience representing Great Britain and the dream continues. Olympic medals do not happen overnight but I am happy with my progress.

“Now it’s time for some sporting shooting during the winter season before next year’s competition season. I will also be supporting my coach, Steve Scott, in Olympic year.”
