THE Basingstoke Championships took place at Gold Valley’s syndicate and gold lakes on Sunday last, where Graham Aggar topped the 60 peg field with 109lb of carp and bream on the pole and pellet – 47lb of carp and 62lb of bream to be exact.

Drawbag specialist Steve Hunt filled second spot with 99lb 2oz of carp on the method feeder. Simon (The God) Kiefer utilised the bomb and pellet for 96lb 8oz and third place.

Graham Spiller’s 82lb of carp came next, while the self-appointed second best angler in the world, Gedge Cooper, made up the frame on an even 77lb.

Section winners by default were: Section A – Gary Knight; Section B – Anthony Thomas; Section C – Rob Gallagher; Section D – Gedge Cooper; Section E – Graham Spiller.

The winning team comprised of Les Humphries, Gary Chawner, Mo Saunders, John Timney and Matt Stainer.

The match was well organised by Ian Jones, and thanks must go to John Raison and Angie for their cooperation.

Camrose AC fished at Soke Road Lake last Sunday and Darren “Dodgy” Brown won with 38lb of mixed on pole and paste.

Bobby Williams was second with 32lb 8oz of mixed on pole and paste, followed by Bill Atkinson on pole and pellet with 31lb of mixed.

Eight fished and caught.

The Barney Barrington Memorial match takes place this Sunday at the great man’s favourite venue, The River Thames at Pangbourne.

It’s hard to believe that it’s 10 years since he left us, so Sunday will be a day of memories for all of us that knew him.

The draw will be in the Beale Park main car park at 8.30am.

A recent match at the venue saw Tony Tibble win with 17lb 5oz of roach on pole and maggot.

Joe Baker came second with 15lb 6oz of roach and dace on pole and caster. Rob Smith put 13lb 2oz in the sack on pole and caster with George Gallagher weighing in with an even 12lb.

Twenty-four fished and all caught.

The latest Tadley Angling match at Cove Pit put Dave Ward in the driving seat with 110lb of carp on pole and corn. Ian Crouch was next with 89lb of carp, followed by Tony Holdsworth on 77lb.

Fourteen fished and caught.
