BASINGSTOKE American football players Bruin White and Adam Potts will be hoping to help the Solent Thrashers youth team to Brit Bowl glory on Saturday at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster.

The former Fort Hill pupils have been instrumental in getting their team to the finals for the first time in their history.

Quarterback White and running back Potts were a big part of the team's offence, which scored 340 points in 15 games.

The Thrashers, who are based in Southampton, are now in the final eight from 36 teams nationally and three games away from being crowned national champions.

Standing in their way of lifting the trophy are the Buckinghamshire Wolves, Kent Exiles, Woodham Warriors, Chorley Buccaneers, Leeds Academy Assassins, Highland Wildcats and East Kilbride Pirates.

The quarter-final draw has yet to be made, with the competition now a straight knock-out tournament.

To reach the final eight, the Thrashers travelled to Cornwall for the Southern play-off finals.

They had a great day as they won all three of their games, beating Essex Spartans 24-6, Farnham Knights 23-6 and London Warriors 13-6.

Potts won the MVP on the day as he ran in five touchdowns to take his season's total to 20, while quarterback White added two more passing touchdowns to take his tally to 29.

The Thrashers finished their regular season with a record of seven wins and five losses, but for the second year running they enjoyed a 100 per cent record in their home series of three games at the end of May.

They beat Cobham Cougars (24-18), Gloucester Centurions (20-0) and Berkshire Renegades (24-0) and they have now not lost a game at home since 2013.

This was the club's third tournament of the season after they enjoyed wins over Berkshire (19-6) and Gloucester (24-6) first time out and then cruised passed Sussex Thunder (42-6) and Farnham Knights (30-0).

Due to injuries and holidays a depleted Thrashers side lost all three games in their final tournament, but still made the Southern play-offs where a full strength side booked their place at the finals weekend.
