LAST Sunday’s match results paled into insignificance compared to the £1,850 raised from five matches held on Stacey Angling Club’s waters and Adventure’s Willow Pool.

The event, organised by Basingstoke Railway Piscatorials and Stacey’s Fishing Club, will benefit St Michael’s Hospice.

Stacey’s supremo Keith Brown organised the event, which included a breakfast and an after-match barbecue, staffed by Andrea Brown, June Brown, Lyn Matthews and Michelle Morrison, while Mick Brown put the Artful Dodger to shame, and went round during the match selling raffle tickets. Most anglers dug deep just to get rid of him – a shrewd move. The raffle alone raised more than £500.

Thanks to Bato Baits and Tadley Angling for their raffle donations and to all the anglers that took part and gave so generously.

Adventure AS fished their Willow Pool, and Graham Spiller won with 36lb 10oz of carp on a variety of methods. Mick Fordham was second with 36lb. Thirteen fished.

Basingstoke Railway Piscatorials were at Whitehouse Lake, where Dave Edward topped out on 10lb 8oz. Colin Ariss made second place with 8lb 8oz. Thirteen fished.

Stacey’s match group went to Soke Road Lake, where Paul Cripps scored with 34lb of carp. Matthew Butler was runner-up with 26lb. Twelve fished.

Camrose AC fished at New Barlows, and Bobby Williams won with 27lb of carp. Brian Orchard was runner-up with 26lb 6oz. Thirteen fished.

South Reading AC went to Old Barlows, where Ron Cole caught 22lb of mixed to win from Tony Green, who caught 9lb 7oz of mixed. Twelve fished.

Away from the charity event, Kennet Ospreys fished at Billhook, where long pole specialist Ray Shepherd won with 65lb 8oz of carp at 16 metres on pellet. Rafel Socha was second using the method feeder for his 43lb 8oz of carp. Twenty-three fished and one blanked.

Oxoid AC fished Cottage Lake at Witherington Farm, where Mick Cooper topped out with 44lb of carp on pole and paste. Nick Hillier’s 34lb 2oz was second. Ten fished.
