OVERTON Black Arrows Archery Club were narrowly beaten 11-10 by Alton and Four Marks Archers in the second round of the Archery GB On Target competition.
Overton were represented by Dave Roseman, Julie Elston, Richard Buckner, Bill Jones and Peter Turner.
The weather was awful, with driving rain and a fair wind making shooting in the conditions challenging interesting, to say the least.
The competition was organised into three rounds of two dozen arrows, which were shot at an 80cm face from at a 50 metre distance.
This was done first as teams, then recurve and compound, culminating in a head-to-head competition with the best and worst compounds and recurves shooting against each other.
After losing the first round and drawing the second, it all came down to the final head-to-heads. Buckner and Roseman won their matches, and while Elston put up a spirited fight, he lost.
SoIt all came down to a decider and Jones got to within 10 points of his opponent, but also lost, meaning so Alton won the match 11-10.
Last year, Overton were eliminated by the eventual winners Oxford, so the omens are good for Alton and Four Marks.
