BASINGSTOKE Blizzards Basketball Club’s Ethan Wyatt and Ethan Fraser helped the South England Under-11 team reach the semi-finals of a national tournament in Sheffield.

The South team were placed in a pool against the South East, London and East Midlands.

They started off with a hard-fought 28-24 victory over local rivals the South East and their next game was even tougher as they were edged out 24-13 by London.

Against East Midlands, the South raced to a 17-point lead at half-time, only for their opponents to hit back.

The gap was reduced to three points by the end of the third quarter, setting up a thrilling final session, but the South ran out convincing 41-28 winners.

The semi-finals saw the South drawn against the East. They led by a point by the end of the first quarter but the East then took control, winning by 20 points.

Four more players from the junior section at the Blizzards have been selected for regional teams.

Matthieu Rident has been picked for the Under-17s, while Jack Bond, Aaron Farmer and Ben Firrell have all been selected for the Under-15s.

The junior section performed really well last season in what was their first year of competition, with the Under-16s making the league’s play-offs.
