ADVENTURE AS flew the flag for Basingstoke last Sunday, winning their way through to the semi-finals of the National Super Cup competition.

Fishing at the Greenridge Farm Complex, the Basingstoke side were level with Newlands AC, of Witney, Oxon, on sections won, 3-3, but went through on weight advantage.

Individually, Kevin Simpon, of Newlands, scored with 120lb of carp on pole and meat.

However, Adventure took the next three places with Graham Shadwell’s 100lb 14oz, Graham Spiller’s 70lb 8oz, and Steve Hunt on 66lb 14oz.

Let’s hope the draw is kind in the semis.

Kennet Osprey were at Gold Valley’s Syndicate Lake last Sunday, where Roger Beale made the most of a good draw and won with 72lb of carp on the bomb.

Tony Woolford’s 69lb 12oz was a bomb and method affair. Phil Tiller’s 67lb 12oz of carp was a bomb catch, while Les Humphries caught 46lb 12oz on the pellet feeder.

Eighteen fished and all caught – just.

Adventure AS’ club match at Timsbury Manor saw Mick Fordham make it three wins in a row with 125lb of carp on pole and maggot.

Darren Wright also pole and magged it for his 123lb 8oz of carp. Colin Shepherd’s 118lb 12oz was a pole and corn affair, while Dave Butler caught 91lb 8oz in the same method.

Sixteen fished and caught.

Camrose AC took themselves to Soke Road last Sunday, where Bill Gordon topped out with 16lb 10oz of mixed on pole and meat. The catch included an 8lb 10oz grass carp.

Brian Orchard’s 14lb 5oz of mixed on pole and worm was followed by Paul Follington on 9lb 10oz.

Eight fished and caught.

Last week’s Whitehouse Wednesday wangle was won by Darren Wright with 25lb 8oz of mixed on pole and pellet.

Paul Bassinder finished second with 24lb 4oz of carp and bream on pole and meat, while Ian Jones caught 17lb 10oz of carp on pole and corn.

Twelve fished and caught.

The Barney Barrington Memorial match will take place on the River Thames at Pangbourne on September 27.

As this is the 10th anniversary of the great man’s demise, a special effort is to be made to raise the profile of the event and increase the donations to St Michael’s Hospice.
