BASINGSTOKE Chess Club juniors have received a massive boost with the news that the Hampshire Junior Chess Association has reformed.

A committee of five people has been formed and it is hoped to introduce inter-club events, training and provide a junior trophy competition in memory of Joe French.

As well as Basingstoke, clubs from Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester and Fareham have indicated interest.

Basingstoke Junior Chess Club, which is for players aged seven and over, has resumed and anyone, including beginners, can go along and join.

Sessions run from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays at the Basingstoke Bridge and Chess Club, which is situated on the corner of Sherborne Road and Richmond Road.

Start and finish times are flexible, the fee is £2 per week and there is a tuck shop available.
